Ranchi, April 5: Ramgarh Police have arrested seven members of the Rahul Dubey gang and foiled a planned firing incident targeting the MGCPL company in Patratu, in what officials say was linked to extortion (“levy”) demands.

The arrests follow intelligence inputs received by SP Ramgarh Ajay Kumar on April 5,  indicating that the gang was planning another attack after the company resumed work on an overbridge project without paying the demanded levy. Earlier, on March 29, a firing incident had taken place at the company’s main gate.

Chase, Arrest, and Seizure

Acting swiftly, a special team led by ASP-cum-SDPO Patratu Gaurav Goswami launched vehicle checks across the sub-division. During checking near the Patratu Railway Overbridge, a suspicious i20 car (JH01FF2503) and a motorcycle attempted to flee.

While two bike riders escaped, the car crashed into an iron girder during an attempt to reverse. Three occupants tried to flee on foot but were caught. They were identified as Tushar Singh (20), Mithun Kumar (28), and Aman Ansari (18).

A search led to the recovery of a loaded country-made revolver and live cartridges from Tushar Singh, along with mobile phones from the others. The accused failed to produce any valid documents for the weapon.

During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in the March 29 firing and revealed plans for another attack. They also disclosed links to Rahul Dubey alias “Mama,” who allegedly coordinated operations through the ‘Jangi’ app.

More Arrests and Recoveries

Based on leads, police arrested four more accused: Kunal Singh alias Shivam Singh, Badal Singh alias Kunal Kumar, Sumit Pandey, and Sunny Bedia—all residents of the Giddi area in Hazaribagh.

Additional weapons, including a country-made pistol and live cartridges, were recovered. Police also seized the i20 car, a laptop, eight mobile phones, and other materials.

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

Linked to Earlier Extortion Case

Investigations revealed that the firing incidents were tied to levy demands. A separate case had already been registered under BNS sections and the Arms Act in connection with a similar firing at a residence.

One of the arrested accused, Mithun Kumar, also confessed to involvement in another incident in the Kuju area on March 3, just before Holi.

Wider Crackdown Underway

Police said multiple teams are continuing raids across Ramgarh and adjoining districts to dismantle the Rahul Dubey gang and other criminal networks involved in extortion and violent activities.

The operation involved a large team of officers from Patratu, Gola, Bhurkunda, Barkakana, Bhadaninagar, Kuju, and Ramgarh police units, along with technical and reserve personnel.

All seven arrested accused have been sent to judicial custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
