Daltonganj, April 4: A peculiar situation unfolded during a press conference of Palamu SP Reeshma Ramesan in Daltonganj on Saturday when two individuals posing as journalists were identified and asked to leave.

The SP was briefing mediapersons about a recent murder at a private bus operator’s office on April 2, where a man was shot dead. Police had solved the case within hours, arresting the accused who confessed to committing the crime for ₹2 lakh.

Suspicion over unknown faces

During the press conference, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajeev Ranjan noticed two unfamiliar individuals in the gathering and alerted the SP.

Acting promptly, the SP asked the two to identify themselves and explain how they had entered the press conference.

Posing as YouTubers

The two individuals claimed to be YouTubers but failed to give satisfactory answers and appeared confused. Police also pointed out that they were not part of the official district press group.

The SP asked them to leave the venue, which they did.

SP raises concern over verification

Expressing concern, SP Ramesan stressed the need to maintain the sanctity of official press briefings.

“Journalists should also verify who is entering such platforms. I did not see any concern raised,” she said.

Officials noted that there has been a rise in self-proclaimed YouTubers in Daltonganj, raising concerns about unauthorised access to official events.
