Ranchi, Feb 23: Two cadets of Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (JSSPS) bagged two medals on the opening day of the Asian Track Cycling Championships 2024 at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi (February 21-26).
On the opening day of the competition, JSSPS Team went on to win two medals – one gold and one silver medal. In the Women’s Junior Team Sprint, Sabina Kumari bagged a gold medal in 53.383 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Men’s Junior Team has won one silver medal. The Men’s Junior team of Narayan Mahto along with other two stood second with 47.936 seconds to clinch the silver medal.
To represent India in World Championship in China
These two winners of JSSPS will represent India in the upcoming World Championship to be held in China in August 2024.
Forty-two cyclist riders including three from Jharkhand (two from J.S.S.P.S. and one from Lohardaga) from India are participating in this international event. Altogether 600 players from 18 Asian countries are participating in various events in this competition.
Athletes laud support from CCL and Jharkhand govt
JSSPS, which is joint venture of Central Coalfields Limited and Jharkhand Govt for promoting sports among budding players across Jharkhand, has dominated the campaign on Day 1 of the 43rd Senior, 30th Junior Asian Track & 12th Para Track Cycling Championships 2024 being held in Delhi.
Narayan Mahato and Sabina Kumari thanked the CCL management and Jharkhand Govt. for supporting them and fulfilling their childhood dream.
Higher Management of the company particularly CMD CCL Dr. B Veera Reddy and Director(Pers) Harsh Nath Mishra are constantly monitoring the activities of JSSPS and issuing necessary instructions for yielding better results. Jharkhand Government is constantly extending support for promoting JSSPS cadets in the state.
Sports Academy flourishes under CCL-Jharkhand govt MoU
Officials of Ministry of Coal and other dignitaries visit JSSPS to interact with sports cadets and motivate them.
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between CCL and Jharkhand Govt in September 2015 to establish a Sports Academy, one of its kinds in the country and training started with 78 budding sports cadets in April 2016. At the moment, 380 cadets are undergoing training in 10 sports discipline like cycling, boxing, archery etc.
Basic facilities like boarding, lodging, medical and most importantly world class training is being provided free of cost.
