New Delhi, March 16: Former Pakistani pacer Aaqib Javed has been named by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as their fast bowling coach. His appointment is effective immediately and will continue until the end of the T20 World Cup, which will be held in the West Indies and the USA in June.

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of former Pakistan pace bowler Aaqib Javed as the national team’s fast-bowling coach. He will work with the national team until the completion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” the SLC statement read.

During his time as a player, the 51-year-old took part in 163 ODIs and 22 Test matches for Pakistan, accumulating an impressive total of 236 international wickets. He was also a part of Pakistan’s triumphant 1992 World Cup-winning squad.
Javed has coached Pakistan, UAE, Lahore Qalandars
Javed possesses considerable coaching experience, having served as the bowling coach for the Pakistan national team, as well as coaching the UAE national team. Additionally, he has been involved in a developmental capacity with the Afghanistan national team.
Since 2017, Javed has held the position of head coach for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Lahore Qalandars. Under his leadership, the team secured back-to-back title victories in 2022 and 2023.
Under his coaching tenure, the UAE national team achieved ODI and T20I status, earned qualification for the 2015 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, and participated in the 2014 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers.
