EC sets the ball rolling in Jharkhand, issues notification for 4 LS seats

Ranchi, April 18: The Election Commission issued a notification on Thursday for the Lok Sabha elections in four constituencies: Khunti, Lohardaga, Singhbhum (all ST seats), and Palamu (SC), enabling prospective candidates to join the fray. They will be able to file nominations until April 25. The nomination papers will be scrutinized on April 26. The last date for withdrawing nominations is April 29.

Voting for these four Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand will be held on May 13. At that time, the fourth voting phase will occur across the country.

Arjun Munda vs Kalicharan Munda in Khunti

Eyeing second term from Khunti, Union Agriculture and Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda will file his nomination on April 23. He will be locked in a battle with Kalicharan Munda of the Congress.

The BJP has fielded Geeta Koda, wife of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, in Singhbhum. She had won the seat on the Congress ticket in 2019.

Former JMM minister Joba Manjhi will challenge her in Singhbhum, a stronghold of Ho tribals.

The BJP has fielded former DGP VD Ram in Palamu. He will face RJD’s Mamta Bhuiyan.

In Lohardaga, the BJP has fielded Sameer Oraon, who will face Sukhdev Bhagat of the Congress. The election battle will be triangular if JMM MLA Chamra Linda joins the fray, defying the party diktat.
