New Delhi, May 29: The Supreme Court’s Registry on Wednesday declined to accept an urgent hearing request from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who sought a seven-day extension of his interim bail on medical grounds in the Delhi excise policy case.

The registry said that he was free to petition the trial court for regular bail based on the earlier ruling from the Supreme Court.

On Tuesday, a vacation bench consisting of Justices JK Maheshwari and KV Viswanathan considered the arguments presented by senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal. The bench stated that the Chief Justice of India could decide on the listing of the interim plea since a judgment in the main case has been reserved.

Kejriwal needs to undergo several medical tests

Kejriwal had requested an extension of his interim bail since the doctors had recommended that he get a Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scan and several other medical examinations.

Kejriwal was freed from Delhi’s Tihar Jail on May 10 after the Supreme Court granted him bail, effective until June 1. He spent 50 days in jail on corruption charges related to the alleged liquor policy scam.

Kejriwal’s bail valid till June 1

The bail is valid until June 1, requiring Kejriwal to surrender to authorities on June 2. While he can participate in the election campaigning, he is not permitted to attend his duties as Chief Minister.

Following his release from jail, Kejriwal has been actively campaigning for the INDIA bloc in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested CM Arvind Kejriwal on March 21.
