New Delhi, May 30: Regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bail petitions in the Excise Policy money laundering case, the Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Arvind Kejriwal has submitted two separate bail applications to the relevant court through his legal team.
His legal team states that the first application is for regular bail in the Enforcement Directorate’s case, while the second is for interim bail, requesting a seven-day extension of bail due to medical reasons.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja will preside over the hearings for both applications on June 1.
ED’s advocate opposes bail citing campaigning by Kejriwal despite health issues
ASG SV Raju made an appearance for the ED and stated that he needed at least two days as he had just received a copy.
“There are some submissions to be made. Word used is ‘will surrender’. There’s lot of supression which has to be brought to notice. He’s campaigning in Punjab, his health did not hinder him from campaigning, strenuous campaigning has been done. Last minute bail is being filed. His conduct doesn’t entitle him to any bail,” ASG SV Raju stated.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja scheduled a detailed hearing for June 1, 2024. In the meantime, the court has instructed the ED to submit a detailed response.
SC rejected Kejriwal’s plea earlier
Kejriwal had previously approached the Supreme Court for an extension of his interim bail. However, on Wednesday, the Supreme Court rejected his plea, stating that since he was granted the liberty to seek regular bail from the trial court, his plea was not maintainable.
The Supreme Court further clarified that since the order on the challenge to the arrest is already reserved, Kejriwal’s plea for an extension of interim bail is unrelated to the main petition.
Kejriwal’s bail valid till June 1
The bail is valid until June 1, requiring Kejriwal to surrender to authorities on June 2. While he can participate in the election campaigning, he is not permitted to attend his duties as Chief Minister.
Following his release from jail, Kejriwal has been actively campaigning for the INDIA bloc in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
