By-elections for the six assembly segments of Dharamshala, Gagret, Kutlehar, Sujanpur, Barsar, and Lahaul Spiti were conducted alongside the parliamentary elections on June 1.

Three of the six newly elected legislators, namely Ranjit Singh (Sujanpur), Vivek Sharma (Kutlehar), and Anuradha Rana (Lahaul and Spiti), are newcomers to the assembly.

For the Congress, winning the by-election was crucial for ensuring stability in the government, as it now holds 38 MLAs in the 65-member Assembly.
