10 killed after tempo traveller full of pilgrims plunges into Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand

Rudraprayag, June 15: A tempo traveller full of pilgrims fell into the Alaknanda River on the Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. 10 passengers died in this accident and 13 passengers were injured.

This tempo traveller was carrying a group of pilgrims who had set out for the Char Dham Yatra. According to the information, the pilgrims who were residents of Noida were travelling to Rudraprayag from Noida when it plunged into a deep gorge.

Rudraprayag’s District Disaster Management Officer, Nandan Singh Rajwar, reported that the accident occurred at around 11 AM. The vehicle had 23 passengers on board, including three crew members. The vehicle slipped off the road and fell down to the bank of the Alaknanda River. He said that as soon as the information about the accident was received, relief and rescue teams reached the spot and began the operation.

After the tempo fell into the river, there was a lot of screaming among the pilgrims. The villagers informed the police about the accident. The police administration immediately rushed to the spot. The SDRF team reached the spot and started the rescue work. The police and SDRF team rescued the injured and admitted them to the nearest hospital.

Uttarakhand CM, Amit Shah, JP Nadda offer condolences

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep grief over the accident and directed the officials to provide treatment to the injured.

“The local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations. The injured have been sent to the nearest medical centre for treatment,” he stated.

He also said that the seriously injured passengers have been airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah conveyed his condolences for the lives lost in the accident and mentioned that the local administration and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are currently engaged in the rescue efforts.

“Received the sad news of the road accident in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand. My condolences are with the families of those who lost their lives in this accident. The local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue work and all possible help is being provided to the injured. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Shah posted on X.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda also offered his condolences and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured in the accident.

“The news of many people getting killed in a road accident in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, is extremely sad. The local administration is engaged in relief and rescue work with full readiness. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray to Baba Kedarnath Ji to grant speedy recovery to the injured,” Nadda wrote on X.
