Jharkhand News: Dr Purvey elected secretary of 107 years old Dhanbad Club

Dhanbad, July 1: Dr Pranay Kumar Purvey was elected the new secretary of the 107-year-old Dhanbad Club in a keenly contested election that concluded on Sunday late evening.

In the straight contest, Dr Purvey (402) defeated Basant Heliwal by 182 votes. Dr Purvey got 402 votes against 220 of Heliwal.

The Dhanbad deputy commissioner (DC) happens to be the designated president of the Club. However, Dipak Kanujia became senior vice-president of the Club defeating Chetan Goenka by 57 votes. Kanujia got 340 while Chetan Goenka got 283 votes. Goenka is also president of the Federation of District Chamber of Commerce.

Dipak Ruia (330) was elected vice-president defeating Nitesh Shahabadi (294) by 36 votes while Abhishek Gupta (436) defeated Manoj Khemka (193) by 238 votes.  Anup Kathuria ( 297) grabbed the joint secretary post by defeating nearest rival Jitendra Gutgutia ( 236) by 51 votes. The third candidate in the race Barnali Gupta got 90 votes.

Newly elected office bearers

A total of 635 members out of 850 participated in the election.

Dhanbad Club member Dipesh Yagnik congratulated office bearers and expressed hope that new team would make the oldest Club of the state more glorious.

Special privileges to Sr Citizens

Newly elected secretary Dr Pranay Purvey after the election said that his priority would be to provide special privileges to senior citizen members of the Club.  “Besides it, we will also focus on providing more facilities to members and increasing sports activities for children of members,” said Dr Purvey.

The secretary said he would also focus on the affiliation of the club with other clubs of the state.
