Jamshedpur, July 8: Rath Yatra was celebrated with traditional gaiety in and around the steel city on Sunday, bringing in a divine ambience for a day here in the city which otherwise remains in din and bustle.

The streets remained bustling with devotees, including women and children who thronged to the places from where the Rath Yatras were to begin and continued to remain festive until the delightful Chariots of Lord Jagannath, Sister Subhadra and Brother Balbhadra did not role out of their view.

The main Rath Yatra was organised by the Utkal Association at Sakchi from where a wooden chariot was drawn by the devotees for about a 6 km long route, passing through the important thoroughfare in Sakchi.

Health Minister Banna Gupta was also present on the occasion to take the blessings of Lord Jagannath alongside a large number of dignitaries of the premier Odiya organisation.

As the decorated chariot Lord Jagannath and his siblings aboard began to roll, the exited devotees made their bid to have their grip on the rope to pull the chariot.

RSS volunteers played their role to control the crowd around the chariot throughout the route of the Yatra which was marked by devotional Odiya bhajan and dance of the devotees to its tune.

Late in the evening after the Rath Yatra was over, thousands of people were served bhog at the Utkal Association premises.

Chariots of Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Brother Balaram were drawn from the Ram Mandir in Bistupur where thousands of people gathered to get a chance to pull the rope of the chariots or have a glimpse of the Lord.

Rath Yatra was also organised at Naga Mandir in Beldi area near Dhatkidih.

The police and district administration had made elaborate traffic arrangements to ensure a smooth celebration of the Rath Yatra.
