Senior BJP leader Prabhat Jha passes away

Bhopal, July 26: Former Rajya Sabha member and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Prabhat Jha passed away this Friday morning. The 67-year-old Jha breathed his last at a hospital in Gurugram. He had been ill for a long time.

According to BJP sources, Jha’s last rites will be performed on Saturday in his ancestral village (Hariharpur in Darbhanga, Bihar).

Jha was admitted to Bansal Hospital in Bhopal last month and was airlifted to Delhi when his condition worsened. He had been hospitalized at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for about four weeks before his death early this morning at around 5 a.m.

MP CM Mohan Yadav and political leaders express condolences

There is a wave of mourning in the political corridors due to the death of Prabhat Jha. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Madhya Pradesh BJP President Vishnu Dutt Sharma, senior Congress leader KK Mishra and many other BJP and Congress leaders have expressed grief over his death.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his condolences on X saying, “Received the very sad news of the demise of former state president of BJP Madhya Pradesh, senior leader respected Shri Prabhat Jha ji. May Baba Mahakal give place to the departed soul in his lotus feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this terrible blow. Your important role in the development of Madhya Pradesh will always inspire us. Your demise is an irreparable loss for the political world.”

Jha served as a member of Rajya Sabha from 2008-2020

BJP sources have stated that Prabhat Jha, aged 67, is survived by his wife and two sons.

Jha began his career as a journalist in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, before joining the BJP. In 2010, he became the president of the party’s Madhya Pradesh unit.

Jha was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in 2008 and served in the upper house until 2020. He also served as the national vice-president of the BJP in 2015.
