Jharkhand Biodiversity Board to plant 100 rare Indigenous plants in govt schools

Dhanbad, July 27: The Jharkhand Biodiversity Board has launched an ambitious campaign of planting 100 indigenous medicinal plants in government schools across the state.

The Board has launched the drive from Maharani Premmanjri Girls High School, Ratu, Ranchi and under the campaign other government schools across the state will be covered in different phases.

‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Nam’ is an ambitious project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi under which the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board has resolved to plant 100 rare and medicinal plants in each government school.

Biodiversity Board Member Secretary Sanjiv Kumar (additional principal chief conservator of Forest), giving this information, said that the main mission of this campaign is to make people and students aware of available biodiversity in Jharkhand, their identification and importance.

Jharkhand has a hidden treasure of rare plants

“Jharkhand has a hidden treasure of rare indigenous and medicinal plants. Some of them are on the verge of extinction. This campaign will help in reviving and protecting that medicinal/ vitamin plants. The students will also know its importance,” said Member Secretary Sanjiv Kumar.

Sanjiv Kumar said such an ambitious campaign (plantation of rare and medicinal plants) will not only be beneficial in the use of people but also help in maintaining environmental balance.

Under the drive, the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board has focused on the plantation of medicinal plants such as wild Ajwaine, wild Kapoor, Tulsi, wild garlic, wild coriander and others that are vitamins and rare.
