Paris, August 6: Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic champion and World Championships gold medalist, recorded an impressive throw of 89.34 meters in Group B of the men’s javelin throw qualification at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, advancing to the finals.

Neeraj Chopra achieved his best throw of the season with 89.34 meters on his first attempt. He surpassed the qualification mark of 84.00 meters and secured his place in the finals, which will take place on Thursday at 11:55 PM IST.

In Group B, Anderson Peters threw 88.63 meters. Meanwhile, Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, who holds the record for throwing 90 meters, threw 86.59 meters today, making his challenge known.

Additionally, in Group A, Indian athlete Kishore Jena competed in the qualifying round but was eliminated after throwing only 80 meters.

If Chopra wins the gold, he will become the fifth athlete in Olympic history to win the javelin throw gold twice. Additionally, he will be the first Indian to win two gold medals in individual events at the Olympics.

Neeraj Chopra had brought home India’s only gold medal from the last Olympics.
