Jamshedpur, August 7: A few isolated pockets in western and southern Jharkhand are likely to experience heavy rainfall today, said a forecast issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

Thunderstorms and lightning is also likely at isolated places over the state today.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through the centre of low-pressure area over central parts of Pakistan, Sikar, Gwalior, Churk, Purulia, Contai and thence southeastwards to east-central Bay of Bengal.

A cyclonic circulation lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh between 1.5 and 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.

Statistics revealed that Deori in Giridih recorded the highest rainfall of 82.4 mm in the past 24 hours.

This was followed by Tisri in Giridih which got 80.2 mm rain.

Rajmahal in Sahibganj district recorded 76.2 mm of rain while Jhinkpani in West Singhbhum recorded 72 mm of rain in the past 24 hours.

Daltonganj in Palamu recorded 67.3 mm of rain during the past 24 hours while Jamshedpur recorded around 45 mm of rain in the past 24 hours.

Chaibasa in adjoining West Singhbhum district recorded around 22 mm of rain while capital Ranchi recorded around 8 mm of rain.

The minimum temperature across Jharkhand witnessed a downward trend during the past 24 hours due to widespread rainfall activity.

According to rain statistics, as of today Jharkhand was facing a rain deficit of 18 per cent.
