Ranchi, Aug 16: Anmol Murarka became champion of the West Singhbhum District Inter-School Chess Championship.

Though Tanisk Kumar also earned equal six points in the six-round championship along with Anmol Murarka, he had to contend with the runner-up trophy on a progressive point basis.

West Singhbhum District Chess Association general secretary Basant Khandelwal said that total 117 players of 12 schools of district participated in different events. DPS institution was co-organizer with the district body.

Kush Mudra (5 points) and Lalit Kishore Bara (4 points) got third and fourth positions respectively.

Champions of different age groups

Boys, girls under-13 champions

Pratyush Gupta and Samridhi Priya were declared under-13 champions in boys’ and girls’ events respectively. Aditya Bardhan Sharma and Aditi got the winning trophy of boys’ and girls’ under-11 events respectively. Pratush Kar became the under-9 boys champion.

Under-7 champions

Suman Kashyap and Mayra Sah bagged boys’ and girls’ under-7 winner trophies respectively.

District Association president Mukund Rungta, and patron Dipendra Prasad Saw were also present in the closing function. Manish Sharma was the chief arbiter and Purushottam Sharaf was the coordinator. Jahangir Alam, Jaideo Chandra Tripathi, Arpit Khirwal, Jwel Gagrai, Suraj Tiu, Subrat Chandra Tripathi, Manas Gorai and Arun Prasad made the championship a success.
