Jharkhand: Six members of marriage party killed in road accident in Giridih

Dhanbad, Nov 18: Six members of a marriage party were killed and one injured in a road accident near Baghmara village under the Muffasil police station area of the district late at night on Friday.

A police official said the incident occurred between 2.30 am to 3 am on Saturday.

The marriage party was returning on Scorpio from Tikodih village to Thoria village under the Birni block of the district when their vehicle collided with a heavy tree on the roadside.

Five members died on the spot while the sixth person succumbed to his injuries on the way to the referral hospital.

The deceased were Md Yusuf Mia, Imtiyaj Mia, Subhan Ansari, Sagir Ansari, Asgar Ansari and Aftab Ansari.

The police official said the injured person has been admitted to the Sadar Hospital while the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem.

Getting information, Bagodar MLA  Binod Singh reached Sadar Hospital and consoled the family members of the victims.

The family members of the victims said that on Friday night  Birni Gajodih resident Dr Faruque Ansari’s son Chand  Ansari’s marriage was in Tikodih village in Giridih. All victims had come to the marriage party and after attending it returned to their village by the same Scorpio late at night.

On the way, their vehicle hit the roadside-based heavy tree. The victims were stranded in the vehicle for hours before local people and other marriage party members brought out them from the severely damaged  Scorpio. Five of them including the driver had died on the spot before the rescue operation. The sixth person died on the way to the hospital.
