New Delhi, August 26: For the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP on Monday announced 16 candidates for the first phase in two separate lists. The first list featured 15 candidates while the second named only one candidate
The BJP announced its updated first list of 15 candidates earlier in the day for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, slated for September 18.
Only hours after releasing the first list, the BJP announced a second list for the first phase of the elections, which featured just one candidate, Choudhary Roshan Hussain Gujjar from Kokernag (ST).
Earlier today, the BJP released a list of 44 candidates but later retracted it. The withdrawn list included 15 candidates for the first phase, 10 for the second phase, and 19 for the third phase.

In the updated first list for the first phase, the BJP has nominated Syed Showkat Andrabi for Pampore, Arshad Bhat for Rajpora, Javed Qari for Shopian, Mohd. Rafiq Wani for Anantnag West, Syed Wazahat for Anantnag, Sofi Yousuf for Bijbehar, Veer Saraf for Shangus-Anantnag East, Tariq Keen for Inderwal, Shagun Parihar for Kishtwar, Sunil Sharma for Padder-Naseni, Daleep Singh Parihar for Bhadarwah, Gajay Rana for Doda, Shakti Parihar for Doda, Rakesh Thakur for Ramban, and Salim Bhat for Banihal.
The Jammu and Kashmir elections for 90 assembly seats will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1 with the results to be counted on October 4.
This will be the first election since the abrogation of Article 370.
