Dhanbad, August 30: The East Central Railway Karmchari Union (ECRKU) held a meeting in Dhanbad on Friday, where they expressed strong support for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) guaranteed by the central government.

ECRKU central committee president DK Pandey, while addressing the meeting of the Dhanbad Rail Division ECRKU committee, highlighted the provisions of the UPS offered by the central government. He attributed the scheme’s implementation to the long-standing efforts and agitation led by AIRF and NCJCM general secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra.

“The pension guarantee is a victory for young railway employees,” stated President DK Pandey.

The meeting saw the participation of all branch secretaries and office bearers of the ECRKU Dhanbad Division unit. Discussions were also held regarding the upcoming union elections for recognition.

Review, support and potential amendments

ECRKU leader Md Ziauddin emphasized the importance of accepting the provisions of the UPS. He noted that after its official notification in the gazette, the union would review the scheme, and if found lacking in the interests of railway employees, ECRKU would push for necessary amendments.

AIRF zonal secretary OP Sharma also addressed the gathering, voicing support for the UPS. He assured employees that under the scheme, those receiving the New Pension Scheme (NPS) would be entitled to 50% of their last drawn salary as pension, including dearness allowance.

Sharma further mentioned that the UPS also includes a 60% family pension. “Any shortcomings in the UPS will be conveyed to the central government by ECRKU and the Federation,” he added.
