World Suicide Prevention Day observed in Jamshedpur, ‘Jeevan’s’ efforts hailed

Jamshedpur, September 11: In a significant step towards raising awareness about mental health and preventing suicides, Jeevan, an organisation dedicated to mental health and suicide prevention, successfully hosted the World Suicide Prevention Day programme at the Michael John Auditorium, Bistupur.

The event was organized in collaboration with Befrienders Worldwide, emphasizing the message that “Suicides are preventable, and depressions are curable.”

The program saw a strong turnout of concerned citizens, mental health advocates, and volunteers.

The Chief Guest, P. K. Ghose, Managing Director of Jamipol, delivered an insightful address, focusing on the importance of mental health awareness, particularly in workplaces. He emphasized the need for organizations to provide support systems for employees experiencing mental health challenges.

A keynote speech was delivered by Jyoti Pandey, who shared valuable insights on the importance of emotional support, recognizing signs of depression, and encouraging open conversations on mental health.

Competition winners awarded

‘Jeevan’ Suicide Prevention Centre had organised inter-school and inter-college competitions to observe World Suicide Prevention Day. More than 200 students from 17 schools and four colleges participated in the three competitions namely Nukkad Natak, Debate and T-shirt painting. These competitions were held in RMS High School, Khutadih auditorium.

On the occasion, certificates were awarded to all participants. Prizes were given to the winners of all three categories during the function.

The annual report on suicide prevention activities, achievements and future strategies was presented. Dr Jeoraj Jain, director, Jeevan and Gurpreet Kaur Bhatia, deputy director also addressed the gathering.
