Kolkata, September 12: After the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now taken action in the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College. Early this morning, the ED team conducted raids at four locations across Kolkata in West Bengal.
The agency is searching the residence of former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, and his father. Additionally, raids are being carried out at a medical store in the city’s Lake Town area and at the home of a vendor (medical supplies seller) in the Tala area.
Prior to this, the ED had conducted raids at several locations in Howrah, Sonarpur, and Hooghly in connection with the same case. About two weeks ago, the central investigation agency filed a case against alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College based on a CBI FIR.

CBI had also raided 15 locations of Sandip and his four associates
In the alleged financial scam case, the CBI had also conducted raids on August 25 at a total of 15 locations related to Sandeep Ghosh and his four associates.
The CBI searched the residences of Dr. Sandip Ghosh (former principal), Dr. Debashish Som (demonstrator, forensic medicine), Sanjay Bashishth (former superintendent), and Biplab Singh (supplier for RG Kar).
As per the directives of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI had filed a case concerning the alleged rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, along with the alleged financial irregularities.
In the FIR, the CBI charged them under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, along with criminal conspiracy, fraud, and dishonesty related to financial mismanagement at RG Kar Medical College.
Sanjay Roy, accused in the alleged rape and murder case, has been arrested.
Dr. Sandip Ghosh served as the principal of RG Kar Hospital from February 2021 to September 2023. Although he was transferred in October 2023, he resumed his role at the hospital within a month.
