Dhanbad, Sept 21: PK Roy Memorial College Dhanbad’s boys’ and girls’ teams demonstrated their dominance in university badminton by winning the BBMKU Koylanchal University inter-college badminton championship. The championships were hosted by BSK College Maithon.

In the boys’ final, PK Roy Memorial College defeated Gurunanak College with a 2-0 score.

In the singles match, Pintu Kisku of PK Roy Memorial College triumphed over Ansh Vishwakarma of Gurunanak College with scores of 21-13 and 21-14, giving his team a 1-0 lead.

In the doubles match, Pintu Kisku and Nikhil Kumar Prasad secured the victory against Gurunanak College’s Dipesh and Aman Chouhan, with scores of 21-14 and 21-11, clinching the championship for PK Roy Memorial College. Last year’s champion, Gurunanak College, was unable to defend its title.

Boys’ runners-up team of Guru Nanak College with trophy

Girls’ team’s success

The girls’ team from PK Roy Memorial College also won their final, defeating BDA College Bokaro by the same 2-0 margin.

In the singles match, Shruti of PK Roy Memorial College easily beat Manisha Toppo of BDA College with scores of 21-02 and 21-04.

In the doubles match, Shruti and Bhumi Gupta overcame the BDA College pair of Shilpa Kumari and Manisha Toppo with scores of 21-05 and 21-10. The BDA College team struggled to match the skill level of their opponents.

Praise from team management

PK Roy Memorial College team managers Dr Ashutosh Rahul Tirki and Dr Kirrom Rashmi Topna praised the performance of their players, highlighting the presence of talented and potential sportspersons in the college. They emphasized that with proper infrastructure and guidance, these students could excel at both inter-university and national levels.

The college principal, Dr Kavita Singh, along with Professors-in-charge Dr Ashok Mandal and Dr Mantosh Pandey, congratulated the boys’ and girls’ teams on their championship victory. They also acknowledged the valuable guidance provided by Dr Tirki and Dr Topna, which contributed significantly to the teams’ success.
