Dhanbad, Oct 4: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary Rakesh Roshan today said that legal awareness is necessary for the holistic development of rural women.

Speaking at the ‘Vidhan Se Samvidhan Yojna’ program in the Nirsa block on Friday, he emphasised that many women remain unaware of their legal rights, which hinders their ability to address social issues. He asserted that understanding their legal rights is crucial for their empowerment.

Roshan highlighted that the National Commission for Women (NCW), in collaboration with the National Legal Services Authority, is implementing the ‘Vidhan Se Samvidhan Yojna’ to enhance legal awareness among women.

He noted that under the direction of Dhanbad DLSA Chairman Ram Sharma, Principal District and Session Judge, legal awareness programs are being organised in various blocks throughout the district. This initiative will continue until February.

Addressing women’s rights issues

“Women would remain subjects of torture in different ways until they are aware of their rights and understand their legal entitlements,” Roshan cautioned.

Ajay Kumar Bhatt, deputy chief of the Legal Aid Defence Council System (LADCS), informed attendees about the POCSO Act, dowry-related violence, and various sections of the BNS. He advised that complaints can be lodged with the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) or DLSA through the toll-free number 15100.

Panel lawyer Jaya Kumari stressed the importance of education, stating that women cannot secure their rights without it.
