Daltonganj, Oct 8: The Latehar district social welfare department had a unique and novel box for the girls and women under the aegis of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao on Monday.
Speaking to Jharkhand Story correspondent today Latehar district Social Welfare Officer Alka Hembrom said, “Under the directive and supervision of Latehar DC Utkarsh Gupta we have distributed 500 SHe boxes among the girls and women under the aegis of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.”
Purpose and significance of SHe boxes
She said, “The SHe box contains sanitary pad, towel, stole, pen and a pocket book containing names of the schemes for women and girls along with the cell phone numbers of the concerned officials etc.”
Latehar DC Utkarsh Gupta launched the SHe box and gave it away to the women and girls.
It was a joyful experience for the fair sex, said sources. They had no idea about it and so when they got it their joys knew no bounds.
Every SHe box has an inscription like SHE SPEAKS, SHE WORKS, SHE LEADS etc.

Alka Hembrom said, “It’s like giving women and girls their due space and voice.”
The SHe box has thus served two purposes. First, it is like a Puja gift. Second, it is a positive awareness of the slew of schemes of the state government for the overall growth and development of women and girls.
SHe box is a miniature of the One Stop Centre for women and girls, said the Latehar district Social Welfare Officer Alka Hembrom.
Background of the SHe box initiative
However, way back in 2017, the government of India’s Union Ministry of Woman and Child Development came out with a SHe box which denoted sexual harassment electronic box wherein a woman or a girl whether doing work/job in an organised or unorganised sector or in the private sector or government sector can straightway complain about any sexual harassment episode meted out to them at their workplace.
Latehar social welfare set-up has taken a lead by giving away SHe boxes.
