Daltonganj, Oct 19: The Returning Officer of the Daltonganj assembly constituency, Sulochana Meena, has issued a ‘Notice of Election under Rule 3’ informing a change in the timing of voting for 35 booths falling in the Daltonganj assembly constituency.

The Notice of Election was issued on Friday under the signature of Sulochana Meena who is also the sub-divisional magistrate. Sulochana Meena is a 2022 batch IAS officer.

These 35 booths will have voting time from 7 am to 4 pm on the day of polling on November 13 along with hundreds of other booths which will have another voting time the same November 13.

The general timing for polling is 7 am to 5 pm. But for these 35 booths, the polling timing has been reduced by an hour 7 am to 4 pm.

No reason for the retiming has been assigned to in the Notice of Election issued by the Returning Officer of Daltonganj assembly constituency Sulochana Meena.

However, it is learnt security concerns are behind the advance closing of voting at 35 booths in Daltonganj assembly constituency.

Affected polling booths

The booths where 7 am to 4 pm voting will take place on November 13 are numbered as 373 – 376, 380  – 392, 395 – 399, 405-407, 410- 413, 415- 419 and 422. It comes to 35 booths only.

Sulochana Meena told this correspondent, “These 35 booths of the Daltonganj assembly constituency will be voting from 7 am to 4 pm only.”

The Daltonganj assembly constituency has a total of 426 booths. It has a total of a little over 4.20 lakh voters. Daltonganj assembly constituency has booths falling in the Bhandarya and Bagdad blocks of the Garhwa district as well.

Sulochana Meena said, “The remaining 391 booths (426- 35= 391) will be voting from 7 am to 5 pm on November 13.

Palamu district’s five assembly constituencies, including Daltonganj are to vote on November 13.

DC writes to Jharkhand CEO for approval

District election officer Shashi Ranjan had told media a few days ago, “We had written to the CEO Jharkhand to seek approval from the ECI for a change in timing of the voting on November 13 here for some booths.”

There are in all 1796 booths in the whole of the Palamu district.

Following approval from the ECI the Returning Officer of Daltonganj assembly constituency Sulochana Meena issued the Notice of Election.
