SUBHASH MISHRA

Ranchi, Oct 21: The campus of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Ranchi has been enveloped in sorrow after Dr Akash Bhengra, a second-year postgraduate student in the orthopaedics department, lost his life in a mysterious incident.

According to office bearers of the RIMS Junior Doctors Association (JDA), Dr. Bhengra and a girl named Pallavi were discovered in critical condition near Hostel No. 4 around 10:30 pm on Sunday.

Junior doctors from the hostel promptly admitted both of them to the emergency trauma centre. Despite immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts, Dr Bhengra succumbed to his serious injuries. Meanwhile, Pallavi remains under critical care.

Circumstances of incident under investigation

JDA representatives mentioned that there are allegations suggesting Dr Bhengra and Pallavi, who is not a student at the institute, jumped from the rooftop of Hostel No. 4; however, no witnesses have confirmed this account. The Bariatu police were informed about the incident shortly after it occurred.

“It is too early to jump to any conclusion regarding the incident’s cause. Police are probing the matter, and we hope the truth will surface soon. Since the family members of Dr Akash Bhengra and the campus doctors are in deep shock from this tragic incident, we request everyone not to speculate until the police investigation is complete,” stated the JDA in a press communiqué released on Monday evening.

A condolence meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow at the RIMS INIAM hall at 10 am to pay homage to Dr Akash Bhengra.
