In response to the charges, Gogoi remarked that this situation reinforces their commitment to the people and suggests that the government aims to keep them imprisoned. He stated that opposing a fascist and communal government is a challenging and costly struggle.

The NIA was conducting investigations into two cases involving Gogoi and his three associates regarding their alleged participation in the violent protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the state in December 2019.
