New Delhi, November 5: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and president of the Archery Association of India, Arjun Munda, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for personally enquiring about his mother’s health during an interaction with Indian athletes who represented the country at the Asian Para Games 2026.
Munda attended the programme at the K. D. Jadhav Hall of the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.
“During the programme, the Hon’ble Prime Minister asked about my mother’s health and enquired how she was doing. His personal affection and sensitivity made the moment deeply emotional and unforgettable for me. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister for this warmth,” Munda said.
He added that the Prime Minister’s concern for personal and family matters, alongside his encouragement of athletes, reflected his compassionate nature.
Congratulating the Indian para-athletes, Munda said India had won 114 medals at the Asian Para Games 2026, including 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals.
The athletes also set five world records and nine Asian records, he said, describing the achievements as a testament to their courage, hard work and dedication.
Indian archers achieve historic feat
As president of the Archery Association of India, Munda expressed particular satisfaction with the archers’ performance. The Indian archery team won three gold and three silver medals, marking its best-ever gold-medal tally in archery at a single edition of the Asian Para Games, he said.
He said the achievement was the result of the collective efforts of the athletes, coaches and support staff.
Women athletes’ achievements praised
Munda also praised the performance of the Indian contingent’s women athletes. Of the 56 women who took part, 34 won medals, he said, calling their success an inspiring example of the talent, confidence and determination of the country’s daughters.
He said the achievements had strengthened the resolve to promote para-sports in India. Continued efforts were needed to provide talented athletes with better training, facilities and opportunities to reach new heights, he added.
Munda congratulated all the athletes, coaches and support staff and wished them success in the future.
