BIT Mesra VC stresses industry-academia collaboration and innovation

Ranchi, Oct 22: The International Data Science and Engineering Conclave 2024 kicked off on October 21 at the Digital Innovation Lab, Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra.

Organized by the Center for Quantitative Economics and Data Science in collaboration with Adrosonic, the event witnessed the presence of dignitaries from the academic and corporate world.

The event commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Kunal Mukhopadhyay, Head of the Centre for Quantitative Economics and Data Science, BIT Mesra. He highlighted the significance of the conclave in fostering collaboration between academia and industry.

Professor Indranil Manna, Vice Chancellor of BIT Mesra, emphasized the national significance of industry-academia collaboration and innovation across all engineering disciplines.

Mayank, CEO of Adrosonic, spoke about the inception of the Digital Innovation Lab, underscoring the long-term vision to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry needs.

James Fairgrieve, Head of Innovation at Aventum Group, discussed the importance of innovation over deadlines, encouraging students to embrace failure as part of the learning process.

A significant moment of the conclave was the launch of the white paper, “AI INSURANCE: UNLEASHED: Redefining Insurance with Language Models”, co-developed by the Digital Innovation Lab, Adrosonic, and Aventum Group. This paper explores the transformative potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) in the insurance sector.

Digital Innovation Lab Inaugurated

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Indranil Manna, inaugurated the state-of-the-art Digital Innovation Lab, equipped with 20 high-end systems powered by Azure Machine Learning for data analysis. The lab will support research in emerging fields such as Quantum Computing, Fintech, Data Engineering, and Precision Agriculture, among others.

Insights from Industry Leaders

Neeraj Kumar, Director of Quality Engineering Services, underscored the importance of data engineering, highlighting it as a crucial area where academia must focus. He stressed the need for research and innovation to drive future corporate growth. Additionally, the COO of Adrosonic, Sonal, expressed her hope that the lab would serve as a game-changer by providing students with hands-on industry experience within an academic setting.

The event also featured a panel discussion on “Bridging Theory and Practice: Navigating the Future of Innovation Through Industry-Academia Collaboration,” which included experts such as Mr. Neeraj Kumar, Dr. Manish Kumar Pandey, and Dr. Kirti Avishek.

The conclave concluded today with various sessions aimed at furthering collaboration between technology, innovation, and academia.
