Ranchi, Nov. 1: The INDIA bloc today questioned the Election Commission’s impartiality raising questions over the removal of Deoghar SP Ajit Peter Dungdung.

In a memorandum, submitted to the EC, JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said the order is surprising and aimed at destabilising the administrative machinery amid assembly elections.

He pointed out that the EC had removed the then Deoghar DC Manjunath Bhajantri, during the Lok Sabha elections, in a similar fashion on a complaint lodged by BJP candidate Nishikant Dubey. “Both the orders, taken against Adivasi and Dalit officers, betrayed the EC’s motive to indirectly help a particular political party,” he alleged.

“Right now, there is no complaint against Dungdung and yet he was removed,” he added.

Notably, the EC has taken action given the previous allegation against Dungdung during the Lok Sabha elections.

Why did EC take action against Dungdung during LS polls?

During the Lok Sabha elections, the commission had received a complaint that the absconding accused in three cases, Shivdatt Sharma, had reached the Jasidih police station and lodged an FIR against MP Nishikant Dubey. Questions were raised on this that the absconding accused reaches the police station and lodges an FIR and the police do not even arrest him. After the Lok Sabha elections, he was again posted as the SP of Deoghar.

Not only this, in the name of vehicle checking, the Deoghar police had also wrongly taken away the keys of vehicles. After reviewing the MP’s complaint, the commission removed Dungdung.
