Jharkhand Polls: 46.25% voter turnout till 1 pm in first phase

Ranchi, Nov 13: By 1 pm in the first phase of the Assembly elections, Jharkhand registered a voter turnout of 46.25 per cent, as per Election Commission of India (ECI) data.

As per the Election Commission of India, Gumla recorded the highest voter turnout at 52.11 per cent, followed by Lohardaga at 51.53 per cent and Khunti at 51.37 per cent till 1 pm.

Ranchi, the capital city, had a lower voter turnout, recording 40.98 per cent by 1 pm.

The voter turnout in Seraikella-Kharsawan stands at 50.71 per cent, followed by Simdega at 50.66 per cent and Latehar at 50.41 per cent.

According to the ECI, the voter turnout in Kodarma was 47.33 per cent, Ramgarh recorded 46.81 per cent, Garhwa had 46.75 per cent, West Singhbhum saw 46.41 per cent, Hazaribagh stood at 45.77 per cent, Chatra at 45.76 per cent, East Singhbhum at 44.88 per cent, and Palamu at 44.00 per cent.

By 11 AM Jharkhand registered a voter turnout of 29.31 per cent while a voter turnout of 13.04 per cent was recorded by 9 AM in the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections.

663 candidates in fray in first phase

The voting for the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections began today at 7 AM across 43 assembly constituencies. Voting is underway in a total of 43 constituencies, including five in Ranchi district.

The fate of 683 candidates in the electoral race will be decided by 13,710,717 voters, including 6,873,455 men, 6,836,959 women, and 303 third-gender voters. Of the 683 candidates, 609 are men, 73 are women, and one belongs to the third gender.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has deployed thousands of security personnel to ensure peaceful voting. Additionally, 18,000 GPS-equipped high-tech vehicles are being monitored, along with surveillance through webcasting.
