Sukma, Nov 22: In Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, 10 Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel on Friday, a senior police official reported.

According to Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P., the gunfight began in the morning in a forest within the jurisdiction of the Bhejji police station area while a joint security team was carrying out an anti-Naxalite operation.

He mentioned that the operation was launched following intelligence about the presence of Maoists from the Konta and Kistaram area committees in the forested hills surrounding the villages of Korajguda, Dantespuram, Nagaram, and Bhandarpadar.

He reported that so far, the bodies of 10 Naxalites have been recovered from the site adding that a cache of weapons, including an INSAS rifle, an AK-47, and a Self Loading Rifle (SLR), was also recovered.

He also mentioned that the search operation conducted by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is ongoing in the area.
