THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, Dec 6: There was a major uproar in the Rajya Sabha on Friday following the discovery of bundles of currency notes on a member’s bench.

The commotion began after Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar informed the house that during a routine anti-sabotage check on Thursday, after the session had been adjourned, a bundle of ₹500 notes was found on seat number 222. This seat is assigned to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who represents Telangana in the Rajya Sabha.

The Chairman stated that the matter is under investigation, prompting Congress members to protest. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge argued that since the investigation is ongoing and the authenticity of the news is yet to be established, the Chairman should refrain from naming anyone until the inquiry is complete.

War of words between BJP MPs and Kharge

Responding to the issue, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju questioned why it would be wrong to mention the name of the member to whom the seat is allotted, especially since the currency bundle was found on their seat. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated his stance, urging that no names should be mentioned until the investigation is completed.

Kharge’s remarks led to a commotion from the ruling party, prompting a strong reaction from him. He criticized the ruling party for tarnishing the country’s reputation with what he described as trivial actions.

Union Minister J.P. Nadda responded by highlighting the inconsistency in the opposition’s approach, stating that prioritizing one issue while dismissing another was not appropriate. He called for a fair and transparent investigation to ensure the truth comes to light.

Piyush Goyal added that the opposition often attempts to create a fake narrative and causes disruptions based on reports from foreign entities.
