Dhanbad, Dec 18: An interdisciplinary refresher training program for executives of Coal India Limited (CIL) has commenced at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad.
Program overview
The program aims to provide executives with a comprehensive understanding of the engineering and management aspects of industrial projects, particularly for environmentally sensitive companies. The curriculum includes strategies for adapting to changing regulatory frameworks and technological advancements.
Program coordinators, Dr. Shikha Singh and Dr. Preeti Roy said the training will be conducted in multiple batches, with the first batch scheduled from December 16 to December 30, 2024.
They emphasized the importance of such programs in a rapidly evolving business world saying, “In this fast-changing world of business, developing an executive program is the most essential process.”

Inaugural ceremony and key addresses
The inaugural function was attended by several distinguished individuals, including Prof. Prem Vrat, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT ISM, Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT ISM, Prof. JK Pattanayak, Head of the Department of Management Studies & Industrial Engineering, Prof. Sandeep Mondal, and executives from CIL.
Prof. Prem Vrat highlighted the strong association between IIT ISM and CIL, stressing the importance of continuous learning for improving decision-making capabilities. He remarked, “This program will refresh participants’ knowledge and prepare them for technical and strategic decision-making during daily operations and long-term projects.”
The Director of IIT ISM, Prof. Sukumar Mishra, shared his vision for the long-term program, which will train hundreds of CIL executives from various divisions. “The program caters to the multifaceted challenges of industrial organizations, particularly with the rising climate concerns and commitments to carbon reduction globally,” he said.

Fostering industry-academic collaboration
Program coordinators further emphasized that this executive development program is another step in strengthening industry-academic collaboration.
They noted, “The business world is becoming volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous, and projects have to be considered based on feasibility and actions to be taken in advance to increase their survival.”
