Daltonganj, Dec 26: Drain water has stagnated at the entrance of a locality in Ward 6 of the Medininagar Municipal Corporation, causing significant inconvenience to residents.

Deepak Pandey, a resident of Ward 6 and a senior official in the administrative section of MMCH, shared his concerns with The Jharkhand Story. He explained, “The drain is filled with sand, causing water to overflow. A wealthy businessman, known for owning a dal factory, has dumped large amounts of sand into the drain.”

When asked why the businessman had taken such an action, Pandey alleged, “He wants the drain to stop functioning because he believes the water is damaging his boundary wall. However, his fear is baseless—he could simply get the wall repaired and plastered.”

Attempts to contact the businessman were unsuccessful as he was not available when this correspondent visited.

Municipal Authorities Investigate the Issue

Pandey and other residents have raised the matter with the City Commissioner, demanding immediate intervention to resolve what they describe as a man-made problem caused by one individual.

City Manager of the Medininagar Municipal Corporation, Samita Bhagat, confirmed that the issue is being investigated. “The City Commissioner has assigned a junior engineer to inspect the site and determine how the kachha (unfinished) drain became clogged with sand,” she said.

Bhagat also reviewed photographs of the waterlogged entrance and the sand-filled drain.

“No resident has the legal right to obstruct public pathways or drainage systems,” Bhagat emphasized.

Efforts to address this civic issue are ongoing, and residents are hopeful for a resolution soon.
