Jharkhand govt declares 7-day state mourning over Manmohan Singh’s passing

Ranchi, Dec 27: As a tribute to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away last night, the Jharkhand government declared a seven-day state mourning on Friday.

“In honour of the late former Prime Minister, the Government of India has decided to observe seven days of state mourning from December 26 to January 1, 2025. The Jharkhand government has also decided to observe seven days of state mourning. The national flag will be flown at half-mast at all buildings in Jharkhand where it is flown regularly and no state function of any kind will be organised during the period,” the Jharkhand government notified in a release.

The government has also called off all its planned events, including the state-level program for the Maiyan Samman Yojana on Saturday.

Jharkhand CM expressed condolences over the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying the nation lost one of its great sons.

Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar also shared his grief, highlighting Singh’s enduring contributions as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Finance Minister, and Prime Minister.

Manmohan Singh’s cremation will be conducted with state honors on Saturday. Tomorrow morning, his mortal remains will be kept at the Congress headquarters from 8 AM to 10 AM for public homage.

Today, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, among other leaders, paid their last respects to the mortal remains of the former Prime Minister at his residence.
