Dhanbad, Jan 3: The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has announced plans to invest thousands of crores in the development of power plants and substations across Jharkhand.
DVC Chairman S. Suresh Kumar (IAS) revealed the plans during the inauguration of the first 33/11 kV e-House Substation in Kandra, Dhanbad, on Friday.
Highlighting DVC’s critical role in societal and national progress, Kumar outlined a comprehensive expansion strategy aimed at strengthening Jharkhand’s power infrastructure.
Expansion Plans to Boost Power Distribution
As part of its ambitious initiative, DVC will establish 11 kV infrastructure in 25 locations across Jharkhand, including the construction of 12 state-of-the-art E-House substations.
This project is designed to enhance power distribution reliability and efficiency, foster regional growth, and support small industries by providing high-quality power at competitive rates.
According to speakers at the event, DVC’s entry into the 11 kV distribution sector marks a significant milestone, reflecting its dedication to delivering advanced, efficient, and sustainable energy solutions.

Centralized Monitoring and Cutting-Edge Technology
In addition to the substation in Kandra, Dhanbad, DVC is establishing two centralized control rooms in Kalyaneshwari and Koderma. These facilities will enable centralized and unmanned monitoring of substations, enhancing operational efficiency.
DVC is also adopting advanced technologies such as Ring Main Units (RMU), underground cabling, an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), and a Meter Data Management System (MDMS) to modernize power distribution.

“This project underscores DVC’s commitment to innovation and its mission to empower industries and communities through sustainable energy solutions,” noted the speakers during the ceremony.
The modular 33/11 kV E-House substation incorporates cutting-edge GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) technology. This ensures greater safety, faster installation, and efficient use of space.
