New Delhi, Jan 16: Justice K Vinod Chandran has joined the Supreme Court as its newest judge, with Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna administering the oath on Thursday.

Following his elevation, the apex court now has 33 judges, just one short of its sanctioned strength of 34.

Previously serving as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Justice Chandran brings a distinguished judicial career to the Supreme Court.

His journey began with his appointment as a judge of the Kerala High Court on November 8, 2011. He later assumed the role of Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on March 23, 2023, before his elevation to the country’s highest court.

The Supreme Court collegium proposed his elevation on January 7, with the central government officially notifying his appointment on January 14.

Justice Chandran is set to serve on the Supreme Court bench until April 25, 2028.
