New Delhi, Jan 31: Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, recently made headlines by alleging that the Yamuna water coming to the capital from Haryana was “poisonous.” He accused the Haryana government of deliberately contaminating the water.
In response to these serious claims, the Election Commission sought an explanation from Kejriwal. The Commission had given him until 11 a.m. on Friday to submit his response, and the Delhi CM has now provided a six-page reply supporting his allegations.
The Election Commission held a special meeting with Arvind Kejriwal on Friday morning, modifying its previous schedule due to the ongoing campaign period in Delhi. The Commission listened attentively to Kejriwal as he provided further justification for his claims regarding the poisoning of the Yamuna.
In his detailed reply, Kejriwal acknowledged that the poisonous elements in the Yamuna water have decreased over time. He stated that the water, which originally had a 7 ppm (parts per million) level, has now reduced to 2 ppm. He further alleged that this increase in ppm levels was a result of a deliberate conspiracy orchestrated by Haryana.

Kejriwal Accuses Election Commission of Bias
The Delhi CM also expressed concerns about the Election Commission’s second notice, claiming that the language used suggested that the Commission had already decided on the action to be taken against him.
Kejriwal pointed out that Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi had made three attempts to address the ammonia-laden water issue with the Haryana government, while Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had also raised the matter with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini.
Political Conspiracy and Demand for FIR Against Haryana CM
Kejriwal further highlighted that despite multiple letters from Delhi’s Chief Secretary to Haryana’s counterpart, Haryana’s officials insisted that Atishi should address the issue directly with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
Referring to the entire episode as a political conspiracy, Kejriwal alleged that there was an intentional attempt to create a water crisis in Delhi, leaving half of the city without sufficient water.
Press Conference and Response to Rising Contaminants
Kejriwal added that when the ppm level in the water began to rise steadily and no alternative solutions were forthcoming, Chief Minister Atishi had to hold a press conference to raise awareness of the issue.
He maintained that Haryana deliberately increased the ammonia level in the water sent to Delhi but claimed the level had now been reduced.

Kejriwal’s Criticism of the Election Commission’s Response
Kejriwal also criticized the Election Commission for not issuing a notice to Haryana despite requests from both Atishi and Bhagwant Mann to demand an explanation from the Haryana government. Instead, he contended that the Commission was focusing on penalizing him for his statements.
Kejriwal concluded by demanding that an FIR be filed against Haryana’s Chief Minister for his role in what he described as an attempt to create an artificial water crisis in Delhi.
The situation has sparked a heated political debate, with Kejriwal accusing the Haryana government of sabotaging Delhi’s water supply and demanding accountability from the state leadership.
