Dhanbad, Feb 12: Ajit Ranjan Bardhan, an alumnus of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad, has been appointed as the Vigilance Commissioner of West Bengal.
His appointment was confirmed through a recent notification issued by the West Bengal Personnel & Administrative Reforms (P&AR) Department. Bardhan will serve in this prestigious role for a tenure of five years.
Academic Background and Early Career
Bardhan completed his degree in Applied Geology from IIT (ISM) in 1986 and went on to pursue an M.Tech in Mineral Exploration in 1987. His professional journey began in 1988 when he joined the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). However, the following year, he transitioned into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) as part of the 1989 batch.

Distinguished Career in Administration
Over the years, Bardhan has held several significant positions in the West Bengal administration. He has served as the District Magistrate (DM) of Malda and held key roles such as Secretary of the West Bengal State Electricity Board (WBSEB) and Secretary of the Public Works Department (PWD).
Additionally, he has been the Principal Secretary for various departments, including Personnel & Administrative Reforms, Tourism, Sports & Youth Services, Labour, Public Health Engineering, and Panchayat & Rural Development.
Before his retirement in May 2023, Bardhan held the position of Additional Chief Secretary in the North Bengal Development Department (NBDD) and served as Commissioner of the Jalpaiguri Division.
