IMD issues isolated hail alert in Jharkhand, light rain at many places today

Jamshedpur, Feb 20: Several places across Jharkhand today witnessed light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning which was due to the impact of a trough stretched between Jharkhand and Odisha.

IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre this morning issued a nowcast (Short-term forecast) of rain and thundershowers activity in Ranchi and several other places including Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Simdega, Khunti and Seraikela-Kharsawan.

Most places today woke up to overcast conditions with early morning dense fog which disrupted surface visibility.

IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued an alert of isolated hail over southern and central parts of the state today.

Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty wind (max wind speed: 40-50 kmph) are likely at isolated places over south-eastern and adjoining Central parts of the state.

Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty wind (max wind speed: 30-40 kmph) are likely at isolated places over south-western and northern parts of the state today, according to the forecast.

The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over Jammu at 3.1 Km above mean sea level persists.

Another Western Disturbance as a trough in the lower tropospheric level with its axis at 3.1 Km above mean sea level now runs roughly along Long. 60°E to the north of Lat. 30°N.

The trough from Jharkhand to south Odisha was today running from Gangetic West Bengal to Telangana at 0.9 Km above mean sea level.
