Ranchi, Feb 27: In a move to enhance road safety, Dr. Sanjay Anand Rao Lathkar, Additional Director General of Police (Operations), Jharkhand, has ordered a thorough review of all accident-prone Black Spots across the state.
Chairing a high-level meeting via video conferencing from Police Headquarters, the ADGP instructed senior police officials to analyze accident trends and implement both short-term and long-term measures to prevent road fatalities.
The meeting was attended by all Regional Inspector Generals of Police/Regional Deputy Inspector Generals of Police and all Senior Superintendents of Police/Superintendents of Police. Key officials present included:
- Dhananjay Kumar Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Road Safety Cell), Jungle Warfare School, Netarhat
- Deepak Kumar, State Information Officer, NIC JACU
- Tayyav Hussain, Deputy Director IT, NIC, Jharkhand
- Shashwat Kumar Sinha, State Rollout Manager, eDAR/iRAD
Road Safety Action Plan: Key Directives
During the meeting, the ADGP reviewed the implementation of the Motor Vehicles Act at identified Black Spots and analyzed accident data from 2023, 2024, and January 2025 on a district-wise basis. Following this, several key directives were issued:
🔹 Black Spot Review & Safety Measures:
- Police officials must examine all road accidents from the past year at identified Black Spots and take corrective actions.
- Both short-term and long-term safety measures should be implemented at these locations.
🔹 Public Awareness & Incentives:
- The Good Samaritan Policy should be widely promoted to encourage bystander assistance in road accidents.
- Awareness campaigns must be conducted, and police personnel actively working to reduce accidents should be rewarded.
🔹 Enhanced Security & Emergency Response:
- Increased patrolling and security deployment at accident-prone areas should be ensured.
- Ambulances must be strategically repositioned to provide immediate assistance at accident sites.
🔹 Strict Traffic Law Enforcement:
- Maximum utilization of Breath Analyzers, Speed Guns, and other safety equipment is mandatory.
- Violations such as drunk driving, overspeeding, lane indiscipline, and seatbelt non-compliance must be strictly prosecuted.
🔹 Accident Data & Compensation:
- Timely entry of accident data into the Road Accident Database (RAD) is essential.
- Proper coordination with NHAI and SH should be established to address road safety concerns and provide compensation to accident victims.
Focus on Reducing Accidents
Officials were also instructed to conduct a comparative analysis of road accidents in January 2025 against previous years and take proactive steps to curb the rising number of mishaps.
After reviewing the data and issuing necessary instructions, the meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on immediate action and accountability in making Jharkhand’s roads safer.
