Simdega leads Jharkhand in AI training, officials learn how to make government work faster

THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Simdega, September 11: In a significant move towards technology-driven governance, Simdega has become the first district in Jharkhand to organise a dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programme for district- and block-level officials.

The initiative assumes added significance in Simdega, one of Jharkhand’s relatively less-developed districts, where efficient delivery of government schemes and public services remains a key administrative challenge. The district administration is now looking at Artificial Intelligence as a tool that could help officials work faster, simplify routine processes and improve the delivery of services to citizens.

A two-day AI workshop, held on September 10 and 11, focused on building the capacity of government officials and staff and familiarising them with practical applications of AI in their day-to-day administrative work.

From a relatively backward district to an AI training hub

The decision to introduce AI training at the district and block levels marks a significant shift in the way technology is being viewed in Simdega.

Rather than restricting AI adoption to major cities or state-level offices, the district administration has sought to take the technology closer to the grassroots, where government officials deal directly with beneficiaries of welfare schemes and public services.

Simdega Deputy Commissioner Kanchan Singh said the initiative was part of the Jharkhand government’s broader efforts, under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, to adopt new technologies and Artificial Intelligence in governance.

“Simdega is making continuous progress through various government schemes and developmental initiatives. In this context, the effective use of new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) can play a pivotal role in making administrative tasks faster, higher in quality, and more effective,” she said.

She said AI could help officials complete tasks more efficiently and within a shorter timeframe while simplifying government processes.

“The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will enhance the speed, quality, and efficiency of government operations,” Kanchan Singh said.

AI training aimed at improving public service delivery

For a district where administrative resources and access to services can be challenging, technology could offer new ways of improving efficiency and reducing the time required for routine government work.

The district administration said AI could help simplify processes and enable officials to focus more effectively on service delivery. The objective is to make the administrative system simpler, more transparent, efficient and citizen-centric.

The training also sought to ensure that officials do not view AI merely as a futuristic technology but understand its possible applications in routine government work.

Officials get hands-on experience with AI tools

During the two-day workshop, technical experts from the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) and GDI Partners explained the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, its applications and its potential use in government operations.

Officials and staff were introduced to different AI tools and participated in hands-on practical sessions. The sessions were designed to help participants understand how AI could be applied to their everyday responsibilities.

The training was conducted and technically guided by GDI experts Anshul Gupta and Janhvi Bahadur.

State-level officials from JSLPS, including Bishnu Charan Parida, Amit Jain and Hem Raj, among others, played a key role in coordinating the programme and providing technical support.

Can AI help bridge the governance gap?

The Simdega initiative comes at a time when governments are increasingly exploring AI to improve administrative efficiency and public service delivery.

For districts such as Simdega, the potential significance is particularly high. Faster processing of information, assistance in preparing documents, data analysis and other routine administrative tasks could help officials save time and improve responsiveness, provided the technology is used responsibly and alongside human oversight.

The district administration’s decision to train officials at both district and block levels also indicates an attempt to take AI adoption beyond the state capital and into grassroots governance.

The workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participants.

The initiative marks a notable beginning for AI-based governance in Simdega and could provide a model for other districts in Jharkhand looking to use emerging technologies to strengthen administration and improve the delivery of government services.
