Ranchi, March 4: JMM MLA Hemlal Murmu today urged women to take action against their husbands if they return home drunk.
Speaking in the State Assembly, Murmu, who hails from Santhal Pargana, said that women often ask him what to do when their husbands come home intoxicated. His advice to them: “Give them a dose (Thok do).” He added, “Drinking alcohol ruins families.”
Taking a jibe, BJP member Neera Yadav questioned the government’s stance, asking, “Why is the government selling alcohol while advising wives to beat their husbands?”
“If you want, we can sit down, but this is not a proper answer”
MLA Uday Shankar Singh demanded the establishment of a college or a model degree college in Sarath-Palojori and Karma Tand. In response, Minister-in-Charge Yogendra Pratap stated that administrative approval had been granted for setting up a women’s college in Jamtara.
However, Singh was not satisfied with the response and pointed out that Jamtara is quite far. Expressing his disappointment, he remarked, “If you want, we can sit down, but this is not a proper answer.”
Addressing a question from Dr. Kushwaha Shashi Bhushan Mehta, Minister Yogendra Pratap stated that teaching at the Government Polytechnic Institute in Basora, Palamu would commence in 2025-26.
On the issue of pollution in Khalari, the minister assured the assembly that the government is taking the matter seriously and that the department will be instructed to take necessary steps.
Demand for Student Union Elections
During zero hour, MLA Arup Chatterjee demanded the formation of a syndicate and the long-pending student union elections in the state’s universities, which have been stalled for the past seven years. Meanwhile, MLA Mamta Devi called for Ramgarh College to be upgraded to a university, arguing that it meets all the necessary criteria.
Additionally, MLA Jairam Mahato demanded an NIA inquiry into the death of Sunil Mahto and sought a provision guaranteeing a minimum wage for cooks.

Raj Sinha Raises Concern Over Drinking Water Supply in Dhanbad
On the sixth day of the budget session, BJP MLA Raj Sinha raised concerns about the drinking water supply in Dhanbad. He highlighted those three major projects worth ₹917.69 crore, launched five to six years ago to provide clean water, remain incomplete.
Sinha attributed the delay to the lack of NOCs from various departments, slow pipeline installation, bureaucratic inefficiency, and frequent re-estimations of the projects, allegedly due to collusion between officials and contractors. As a result, only 60% of the work has been completed. He questioned how the project had been initiated without obtaining the necessary NOCs and asked how many more years it would take to complete.
Phase One to Be Completed in a Year After NOC Approval: Minister
Responding to Raj Sinha’s concerns, Minister-in-Charge Yogendra Pratap assured that Phase One would be completed within a year after obtaining the NOC. Phase Two is expected to be completed within 15 months, while Jhamda’s water project will be finished in three months.
Adding to the discussion, MLA Ragini Singh pointed out the water crisis in Jharia and criticized the Municipal Commissioner’s approach to the issue.
Minister Yogendra Pratap explained that efforts were underway to secure NOCs from NHAI and the Railways, but the Central government had not been cooperative. At this, the Speaker remarked that the required NOCs should have been obtained at the time of preparing the DPR, ensuring readiness from the outset.
