Dhanbad, March 5: The district administration sealed the Ultra Scan Centre at Jagarnath Hospital in Steel Gate, Saraidhela, for violating the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, 1994.
During a suprise inspection, the district PC-PNDT team discovered that an unauthorized health staff member was operating the ultrasound machine instead of a qualified sonographer.
As the hospital administration failed to provide a valid explanation for this violation, the district’s special PC-PNDT team, led by Civil Surgeon Dr. Chandra Bhanu Pratapan, sealed the ultrasound machine.
A show cause notice has been issued to the hospital operator for non-compliance with the Act. The final decision regarding further action against the hospital will be taken by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra.

Strict Regulations for Ultrasound Operators
According to PC-PNDT Act regulations, only a registered medical practitioner with a postgraduate qualification in ultrasonography, radiology, or an MBBS degree with additional training in ultrasound imaging is authorized to operate an ultrasound machine.
The district administration has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring compliance with these legal requirements.
Regular Monitoring to Continue
Currently, 80 registered ultrasound diagnostic centres operate within the district. To prevent further violations, the Deputy Commissioner has set up a special monitoring team to conduct regular inspections of all such centres.
Authorities have also confirmed that similar surprise inspection campaigns will continue across the district to ensure strict enforcement of the PC-PNDT Act.
The inspection team included Civil Surgeon Dr. Chandra Bhanu Pratapan, Executive Magistrate Ravindra Nath Thakur, Assistant Nodal Officer of PC-PNDT Act Dr. Vikash Rana, Dr. Sunil Kumar, IMA Dhanbad Chapter Secretary Dr. Rakesh Inder Singh, Dr. Sams Tabrez, RK Srivastava, and NGO representative Puja Ratnakar.
