Mixed results for Jharkhand players at National Master Badminton Championship

Ranchi, March 20: Jharkhand’s veteran badminton players had a mixed outing at the 47th Indian National Master Badminton Championship currently underway in Goa. While some players advanced in their respective categories, others faced early exits.

Wins for Manoj Tiwari and Uma Rani Palit

According to reports from Goa, Manoj Tiwari and Uma Rani Palit secured victories in their respective men’s and women’s singles matches in the above-45 category. Tiwari progressed to the fourth round after a hard-fought win in the third round, defeating his opponent 21-19, 16-21, 21-14.

In the men’s doubles (above 45), Tiwari partnered with Awdhesh Kumar Singh and advanced to the second round after receiving a walkover in the first round.

Veteran women’s player Uma Rani Palit dominated her first match in the above-45 singles category, winning 21-14, 21-19. However, she was unable to continue her momentum and was eliminated in the second round after losing 10-21, 21-15, 14-21.

Early Exits for Several Players

In the above-35 category, Jharkhand players Proshotam Baraik and Mukesh Kumar exited the tournament in the first round of the men’s singles event. Similarly, Sarala Murmu was defeated in her first-round women’s singles match. The mixed doubles pair of Sanju Kumar and Sarala Murmu also lost their opening-round match.

The above-40 category saw similar struggles, with Sanju Kumar and Rahul Kumar both suffering first-round defeats in singles. In mixed doubles, the team of Uma Rani Palit and Saurabh Suman was also eliminated in the first round.
