New Delhi, April 3: The Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) convened its General Body meeting on Thursday at the Central Hall of Parliament in New Delhi, with CPP chairperson Sonia Gandhi presiding over the session.

During the meeting, Sonia Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government, accusing it of undermining democracy and constitutional principles.

She condemned the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill, calling it a “brazen assault on the Constitution” and part of BJP’s strategy to maintain societal polarization.

She also criticized the “One Nation, One Election” Bill, labeling it a subversion of democratic principles, and accused the government of deliberately delaying the implementation of the women’s reservation bill.

Gandhi alleged that opposition voices were repeatedly silenced in Parliament, including those of the Leaders of Opposition in both Houses. She expressed concerns over the government’s refusal to allow discussions on crucial matters like defense, external affairs, and China’s border activities.

She further accused the ruling party of misrepresenting economic realities, pointing out issues of price rise, unemployment, and growing inequalities.

The Congress leader also urged party members to counter BJP’s attacks on Congress-led state governments by aggressively highlighting failures in BJP-ruled states.

She criticized the Modi government for rebranding initiatives from the UPA era as its own and warned that India was being pushed towards a “surveillance state.”

Stressing the need for continued resistance, she called on Congress members to expose the government’s failures and engage in strong public outreach efforts.
