New Delhi, April 10: The Supreme Court will on April 16 hear multiple petitions contesting the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.

The case has been scheduled as item number 13 on the court’s caselist, according to details published on its website.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Sanjay Kumar and KV Vishwanathan will preside over the hearing.

Several petitioners have approached the apex court, arguing that the amended law discriminates against the Muslim community and infringes upon their fundamental rights.

Meanwhile, the Central government has filed a caveat application to ensure it is given an opportunity to present its arguments before any orders are passed.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 had been cleared by Parliament following intense debates in both Houses, and subsequently received presidential assent from Droupadi Murmu on April 5.
