New Delhi, April 10: A special aircraft carrying 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana landed at Palam Airport in Delhi on Thursday. From there, he will be taken to the NIA Headquarters in a bulletproof vehicle from the Palam Technical Airport.

Sources said that along with the bulletproof car, a marksmen escort vehicle has also been kept on standby as part of the security arrangement. Rana is expected to be produced before the NIA Court soon.

At the NIA Court, officials will seek his remand. Upon being granted custody, agency teams will begin his interrogation. Following questioning, Tahawwur Rana will likely be shifted to Tihar Jail, where special security arrangements have been put in place for his protection.

Security measures have been significantly tightened around the NIA Headquarters. Gate No. 2 of Jawaharlal Nehru Metro Station — located close to the NIA office — has been temporarily closed as a precaution.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has officially distanced itself from Tahawwur Rana following his extradition. In a statement, the Pakistan Foreign Office said that Rana had not renewed his Pakistani documents for the past two decades and holds Canadian citizenship.

Sources suggest Pakistan’s move to disown Rana stems from concerns over his alleged links to the Pakistani Army and the ISI. It is believed that Rana could now expose Pakistan’s direct involvement in the planning of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
