Ranchi, April 13: In a solemn ceremony at the Jharkhand Jaguar Headquarters, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, along with Governor Santosh Gangwar paid tribute to fallen jawan Sunil Dhan, affirming that his sacrifice would not be in vain. The Chief Minister extended heartfelt condolences to Dhan’s family, assuring them of the government’s steadfast support during this difficult time.

“The martyrdom of a soldier is a profound loss,” Soren stated. “We stand with the bereaved family and will ensure they receive all necessary assistance.”

The Chief Minister also visited Raj Hospital in Ranchi to meet injured Cobra-203 Battalion soldier Vishnu Saini, who sustained injuries from an IED blast during a search operation in West Singhbhum district. Soren emphasized the government’s commitment to providing the best possible medical care to the wounded soldier.

High-Level Meeting Held Following Saturday’s Incident; Major Anti-Naxalite Operation Planned

Following Saturday’s incident, Director General of Police Anurag Gupta convened a high-level meeting on Sunday. Senior officers of the Jharkhand Police, along with CRPF officials, participated in the meeting held at the state police headquarters. Police officers from Chaibasa also joined via video conferencing. A comprehensive strategy was formulated during the session to intensify operations against Naxalite groups.

According to sources, a major offensive will soon be launched against Naxalites in the Saranda and Podahat forests of West Singhbhum (Chaibasa) district. Several high-ranking Naxalite leaders are reportedly camped in the Saranda region with their squads. The ongoing operation in the area will be significantly intensified and expanded. DGP Anurag Gupta is scheduled to visit Chaibasa tomorrow to oversee final preparations for the campaign.

Top Naxalites Reported in Saranda

Information indicates that prominent members of the banned Naxalite group CPI (Maoist)—including Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Anal, Asim Mandal, Ajay Mahato, among others—are currently operating in the Saranda forest. In response, the Chaibasa police have launched a targeted operation against them. The campaign involves personnel from the Jharkhand Police, CRPF, Jharkhand Jaguar, and the elite COBRA battalion.

Escalating Operations in Saranda

These events occurred against the backdrop of intensified anti-Maoist operations in the Saranda region. Security forces have launched coordinated efforts to dismantle insurgent networks, targeting top leaders of the banned CPI (Maoist) group. Recent operations have led to the recovery and neutralization of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and the dismantling of fortified Maoist bunkers.

In December 2024, a joint operation by Chaibasa Police, COBRA battalions, Jharkhand Jaguar, and CRPF units led to the recovery and destruction of a 5 kg IED planted by Naxalites in the Saranda area. Further operations in March 2025 resulted in the seizure of explosives and the dismantling of Maoist bunkers, highlighting the ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities in the region.

The state government remains resolute in its mission to restore peace and security in Jharkhand, honoring the sacrifices of its brave soldiers by continuing the fight against insurgency.
